oafvc_headerThe Ontario Agri-Food Venture Centre (OAFVC) is now open for registration and tours! The OAFVC is a not-for-profit, small-batch food processing facility developed by Northumberland County, with support from the Ontario government. This new facility exemplifies a solution for building up regional processing capacity to support local food producers as recommended in Menu 2020: Ten Good Food Ideas for Ontario (2010).

From the OAFVC website:

“Designed with farmers in mind, the Ontario Agri Food Venture Centre (OAFVC) will support fresh fruit and vegetable value-adding opportunities to increase farm revenue.  The facility will also help foodies with recipe development, and staff will work with food processing start-up companies and expansions in Ontario to progress Research and Development, test batch and facilitate small batch co-packing.

The OAFVC will offer services including:

  • Washing
  • Cut
  • Quick chill
  • Flash freeze
  • Labelling
  • Cold, frozen and dry storage
  • Fully equipped commercial kitchen
  • Packaging
  • Training facility
  • Business incubation
