Identifying motivations and barriers to minimising household food waste

This paper studies the results of 15 semi-structured interviews with household food purchasers. The authors identify two types of motives for mimising food waste: waste converns and doing the ‘right’ thing. Barriers to reducing food waste are identified as the a ‘good’ food provider identity, minimising inconvenience, lack of priority and exemption from responsibility.
