On Thursday, April 11, from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. ET, Foodcore Leeds Grenville Lanark will be hosting Good Food in Schools: Creating Positive School Food Environments, a one-day conference showcasing school food programs in Eastern Ontario. The event will be located at the Kemptville Campus.

This one-day event will bring together stakeholders working on school food education and programs across Eastern Ontario to share their efforts to create healthy and positive school food environments. Participants will hear from leaders in the sector on best practices and innovative approaches, discuss shared challenges and opportunities, and identify areas for collaboration.

Sustain Ontario’s Sarah Keyes, Project Manager – Ontario Food Literacy, will be the event’s keynote speaker. Sarah will present recent developments in school food policy and advocacy at the provincial and federal levels, what the implications are for schools across Ontario, and how we can support this work in our communities. She will also speak to her work developing new Ontario curriculum resources on food and science.

The forum is organized by Foodcore Leeds Grenville Lanark, a multi-stakeholder working group committed to building healthy, sustainable and inclusive local food systems. FoodcoreLGL has created a Food Charter and related toolkits, maintains a local Food Inventory, and supports food events and programming in the region.
