On October 5, 2023, the Ontario government announced that it will provide an additional $5 million to the Student Nutrition Program (SNP) and First Nations Student Nutrition Program (FNSNP).

This announcement was made by Minister of Children, Communities and Social Services Michael Parsa in recognition of the need to help more children and youth access healthy meals at school. As shared by the Minister in the announcement’s media release “Proper nutrition is an important foundation for academic success, and students should have access to healthy and nutritious food to support their growing minds and bodies.”

Sustain Ontario applauds this additional investment of funding for our province’s student nutrition programs and we are proud to have supported the work leading to this funding by chairing the Ontario Chapter of the Coalition for Healthy School Food and its advocacy work.

We look forward to working towards additional permanent commitments to school food programs in coming budgets.
