Consultations for Canada’s first Sustainable Agriculture Strategy close on March 31, 2023.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) has been hosting regional online roundtables for producers to inform a Sustainable Agriculture Strategy for Canada. The national roundtable consultation is taking place Friday, March 24, from 12 to 3 p.m. ET.

Feedback received through the virtual sessions will inform the development of the Sustainable Agriculture Strategy (SAS) and support the work of the SAS advisory committee, co-chaired by AAFC and the Canadian Federation of Agriculture.

AAFC has described the Sustainable Agriculture Strategy as:

  • A long-term plan that will help bring together action on priority environment and climate issues in the agriculture sector
  • Shared direction and vision for collective action to improve environmental performance and enhanced resilience to climate change in the agriculture sector
  • A key resource for the Canadian agriculture sector to take action on environmental and climate issues while providing the vital role of responding to growing demands for healthy and affordable food and supporting economic growth

If you want to share your ideas, but cannot make it to a virtual session, a discussion document is available for comments and input on AAFC’s website. The document is available for comment until March 31, 2023. You can also participate in an online consultation survey, open until March 31st.
