York Region’s Youth Food Committee (YFC) is currently seeking new members. If you’re a youth aged 16-30 who is interested in learning about and acting on food issues, learn more below.

Youth Food Committee members have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about food issues in York Region and develop leadership skills;
  • Network and connect with other engaged youth and food system leaders in York Region;
  • Pitch, contribute and lead food policy, advocacy and education initiatives; and
  • Be part of something that positively impacts the community.

In the last two years, the Youth Food Committee and its members have:

  • Organized a United Nations Food Systems Summit Independent Dialogue,
  • Hosted a panel event on the intersection between food and environmental justice
  • Held a town hall event on food and affordable housing leading up to the municipal election
  • Wrote opinion pieces for the local newspaper,
  • Delivered a deputation to Regional Council,
  • Advocated to our MPs & MPPs for a more just and sustainable food sector, and more.

The Youth Food Committee offers a platform for youth to connect with one another and insert their voices on food system issues. Through the YFC, youth pursue topics, projects and events that catch their interest, with support from York Region Food Network.
