Waterloo Region School Food Gardens, a project of Seeds of Diversity, is hosting a Virtual Farm Tour Series throughout the month of June for educators and students in Ontario.

Educators can register to tune in as the series brings classrooms on tours of farms and food production spaces in and near the Region of Waterloo. Each presentation will consist of a 20-25 minute pre-recorded tour, followed by a live Q&A with the farmer(s).

Below are the dates and locations of each tour:

  • Friday, June 3, 12:45 p.m. – Green Hart Farms (New Hamburg)
  • Wednesday, June 8, 10 a.m. – Little Fields Farm (Bright)
  • Friday, June 10, 12:45 p.m. – Littlefoot Community Projects (Maryhill)
  • Thursday, June 16, 12:15 p.m. – The Cabbage Patch Farm (Puslinch)

The top priority of the series is to highlight some of the many local food producers in the Region of Waterloo, and especially those that are small-scale and that utilize sustainable practices. Attendees can expect to learn about organic farming, sustainability, food security, biodiversity, and other important food systems issues.

These tours are open to any southern Ontario elementary or secondary school educators and their students.

During each presentation, attendees will be invited to leave their questions in the YouTube Live chat to be answered by the farmer(s) during the Q&A sessions.

Waterloo Region School Food Gardens (WRSFG), which operates through Seeds of Diversity, is focused on creating opportunities for youth to connect with food systems, learn sustainable practices, and explore careers in food and agriculture. This includes creating and maintaining gardens on school grounds, and supporting youth inquiry into the food and sustainability topics that interest them.
