Food Secure Canada (FSC) is seeking a Communities Convenor to nurture and build relationships. The position is financed for one year (with the possibility of extension if additional financing is secured).

The Convenor will contribute to enhancing a culture of dialogue and shared governance in the organization and the movement. Nurturing relationships, and supporting convening, knowledge-sharing and capacity-building activities led and co-created by and with Indigenous, Black and racialised organizations and leaders, is at the heart of the work.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, cultivate and sustain relationships across the food movement, especially with Indigenous, Black and racialized leaders and organizations.
  • Coordinate the production of network map(s) of food movement actors and activities, with a focus on the under-represented work of Indigenous Peoples, Black, and racialized communities to foster connection, cross movement learning, collaboration and to mobilized collective action.
  • Liaise with the FSC Communications team to design public-facing version(s) of the mapping and supervise the work of a summer intern recruited to support the mapping activity.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a master work plan to guide project planning and manage project work-flow.
  • Collaborate with Black community leaders and organizations towards Black food sovereignty events including: a pan-Canadian meeting; and bilingual gatherings to strengthen Black food sovereignty through social innovation.
  • Gather information from stakeholders to inform the writing of an ethical funding guide.
  • Coordinate participatory and culturally-informed evaluation processes, and synthesize these learnings.
  • Research and recommend culturally appropriate training for staff and Board.
  • Coordinate reporting required from FSC by funders.
  • Participate in FSC staff meetings and contribute on request to the collective work of the organization.
