Join school food program providers from across Ontario for this knowledge-sharing event hosted by the Ontario Chapter of the Coalition for Healthy School Food (chaired by Sustain Ontario).

The event will start with short presentations where organizations will share different ways that they are helping make sure that students have access to healthy food at school every day. Presenters include:

  • Luisa Magalhaes (Peterborough Public Health) – School Food Boxes to Student Nutrition Programs in Peterborough and County
  • Danielle Findlay (Ontario Student Nutrition Program Southwest Region) – Student Advisory Committee and Student Ambassador program
  • Growing Chefs! Ontario – The Beet Café
  • Chris Peacock (The Sharing Place Food Centre, Orillia) – ecommerce platform and the purchasing, packing and distribution process done at their facility
  • Coordinators of the National Coalition for Healthy School Food will share updates relating to the development of a school food program for Canada

Participants will then break out into small groups to discuss a range of relevant topics of interest including: Student / parent / volunteer engagement, procurement, ideas for how to serve healthy food, food preparation (creative ideas to overcome infrastructure barriers etc.), policy development, food literacy, nutrition / program guidelines, partnership development, funding, and monitoring and evaluation
