Join the National Farms Union-Ontario (NFU-O) for their 2022 virtual AGM & Convention for two days of learning, idea-sharing, debate and celebration on March 3-4, 2022.

NFU-O shares that this year’s theme, “Deeply Rooted”, reflects the structural forces at play which prevent swift and meaningful action to counter and mitigate the effects of climate change. “Deeply Rooted” also celebrates the agroecological solutions to climate mitigation: deep roots sequester more carbon in the soil and are more resilient to extreme weather conditions. The AGM & Convention panels will fill the space in between these two ideas.

The keynote address with Dr. Priscilla Settee, David Suzuki Foundation Fellow and Indigenous food sovereignty scholar, will be on Thursday, March 3, at 7:30pm EST.

Dr. Settee will describe her research as a David Suzuki fellow, documenting the impact of western development on Indigenous traditional economies and food producing capabilities, with a focus on trappers in northern Saskatchewan. She will also speak about her work as the co-editor of “Indigenous Food Systems: Cases, Concepts and Conversations”, and will speak to the importance of acknowledging and promoting community based Indigenous food systems both locally, nationally and internationally; and her belief that working in solidarity with global citizens will promote biodiversity and the world foods.

Panels will cover on-farm extreme weather mitigation strategies, land sharing arrangements, the NFU-O’s land-linking work, and more.

For the full convention line-up, including panel descriptions and speaker bios, visit the NFU-O website. And register to attend on Eventbrite here.
