The Greenbelt Fund is currently seeking a full-time Program Officer for a one-year contract position.

Details provided by the Greenbelt Fund are copied below:

Program Officer – Greenbelt Fund

The Greenbelt Fund, a non-profit organization, supports and enhances the viability, integrity, and sustainability of agriculture in Ontario and Ontario’s Greenbelt. It delivers support to farmers and local food leaders along the supply chain to ensure more of the good things that grow in Ontario are being served and distributed through our public institutions, retail, and foodservice markets. Helping to overcome challenges and support economic growth, the Fund’s goal is to create systemic change to permanently increase the amount of local food consumed in the province through grants, education, policy, and networking initiatives.

The Fund is not currently making any grants, but continues to actively engage with stakeholders, including by organizing local food value chain workshops and participating in various events and networks, as well as conducting research, and promoting awareness and understanding of local food and agricultural issues.

Specific responsibilities for this contract position include the following:

  • Manage the design, delivery, and follow-up for five workshops in collaboration with partners
  • Examine the limitations and constraints on the growth of food incubators/accelerators, and identify models of success and best practices that could be developed in Ontario
  • Document the lessons learned from Fund grant projects since 2010, and use it together with other information to prepare “Local Food Solutions” briefs
  • Represent the Fund at a range of agriculture and food conferences, events and workshops
  • Pro-actively identify opportunities to promote local food and the work of the Fund
  • Work with communications staff on quarterly Fund newsletter and a social media strategy
  • Work with development staff on institutional (municipal, provincial, and federal governments) grant prospecting and funding application fulfilment
  • Conduct all other duties as directed by the Vice President or CEO

The ideal candidate is a self-starter, energetic team member. More specifically we are looking for:

  • Demonstrated agriculture and/or agri-food knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work on diverse projects and activities simultaneously
  • Strong planning, organization, and coordination skills
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to prepare clear and concise reports
  • Proven problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to deadlines

This is a full time contract position that concludes end of December 2020. It is currently based in Toronto but we would consider an alternate work location. Periodic travel inside Ontario is required. Please include salary expectations in your application.

TO APPLY:

Applications should be received no later than January 3, 2020. Interviews for successful candidates will be held in Toronto. Please submit a cover letter and curriculum vitae outlining your interest and qualifications for this position, and salary expectations through our online recruitment portal, which can be accessed through the following link.
