The next Bring Food Home Regional Conference will see FoodShare Toronto host a full-day gathering focused on taking action around issues of race and oppression in the food system and food movement at Daniels Spectrum in Toronto (585 Dundas St E) on Wednesday, October 23rd!

“This food justice focused gathering seeks to centre the voices of Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) working in Toronto’s food system. We’ll discuss how we can focus on and implement anti-oppression strategies in the food movement and food system. And we’ll highlight and connect folks doing the work,” FoodShare explains on the event website.

  • Leslie Campbell of FoodShare Toronto will present key research findings and guide a discussion on the research project, Intersections of race and food insecurity, led by Dr. Valerie Tarasuk and Simran Dhunna
  • Political activist and community organizer Karen Washington will deliver the Keynote Speech on Food Justice
  • Educator, speaker and Equity and Inclusion Coach Sheliza Jamal will lead a workshop on Examining Unconscious Bias
  • A panel moderated by Ann Hui, Food Justice & Equity in Practice, will have panelists share their experiences and discuss useful tools for embedding equity and food justice principles in their organization’s structure and operations — panelists are: Donald Corbiere, Toronto Public Health + Leticia Deawuo, Black Creek Community Farm + Cheyenne Sundance, Sundance Harvest + Karen Washington, Rise & Root Farm

You are encouraged to join if you:
