The Golden Horseshoe Food and Farming Alliance (GHFFA), a Sustain Ontario member, is celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday by recognizing farm families who have been farming consecutively in the Golden Horseshoe for the last 150 years or more!

With support from the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, the Canada 150 Farm Family Program aims to recognize the significant contributions these families have had on the growth of our country and province, presenting those who have been approved with specially-designed 150 farm family signs at events throughout the year.

“Passing the farming tradition from generation to generation is an impressive achievement, but continuing that tradition for 150 years or more takes tremendous commitment, continuous improvements, risk taking and hard work,” the news release reads.

An event in July at Scarborough’s Sweet Ridge Farms celebrated the Reesor Family, who have been working the land for over 200 years!

The program is open to family farms in the Golden Horseshoe: the Regions of Durham, Halton, Niagara, Peel, York, and the Cities of Hamilton and Toronto.

For farm families who are interested in applying to the program, visit the GHFFA website here; the deadline is fast approaching on September 30, 2017. Please share with anyone you feel may be interested.
