Community Services Assistant
(37.5 hours/week, 12-16 week contract)

Note: This position is contingent on funding. Applicants must fill out and include the Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility Form to be considered for the job.

The Stop Community Food Centre uses food and food access as a tool for community development in the Davenport West and Wychwood Heights neighbourhoods of Toronto. Among other programs, The Stop runs emergency food programming at our 1884 Davenport Road site, as well as an outdoor bake oven and Good Food Market. We are looking for an energetic, dynamic, friendly, and creative person to support our emergency food programs staff with the Food Bank, Drop-in, and Good Food Marketprograms and activities.

Responsibilities

Assist the Food Bank and Drop-in team with the following tasks:

  • Facilitate Good Food Market every Tuesday;
  • Supervise market volunteers;
  • Complete administrative tasks associated with the market (food ordering, accounting, statistics, etc.);
  • Support Food Bank and Drop-in service delivery and programming;
  • Support and provide outreach for special community events, field trips, and workshops;
  • Support members in garden maintenance tasks (planting, weeding, watering) of gardens to the exterior of the Food Bank and Drop-in, as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with volunteers and community members in a leadership capacity;
  • Commitment to social justice and knowledge of food system issues;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and show sensitivity to those who experience poverty/discrimination;
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a diverse community (people of different ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds);
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to speak a language relevant to the neighbourhood is an asset (e.g. Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Cantonese, Hindi, Hungarian, or other).

Salary: $15/per hour
Start Date: May/June (to be confirmed)
