A more detailed description of the event by the Rural Landowner Stewardship is below:

Rural landowners are the life blood of Eastern Ontario and over the years have been the stewards amongst us who are closest to the land. For the last several years we have been coming together with landowners from this area’s rural communities to share a meal and good discussion in what we call a Landowner Stewardship Lunch & Learn. Partners co-hosting this year’s event include The Alternative Land Use Services Program (ALUS), the St. Lawrence River Remedial Action Plan (RAP), Raisin-South Nation Source Water Protection, both the Raisin Region and South Nation Conservation Authorities, and the S.D. & G. chapter of the Ontario Woodlot Association (OWA). The ALUS Program is a key partner and coordinates a farmer-driven initiative that pays farmers in order to engage them in the enhancement, protection, and maintenance of nature on their properties. Over the past few years well over 30 projects have been undertaken by ALUS with farmer led projects in Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry & Prescott / Russell.

Along with a free lunch there will be an update on local ALUS projects as well as sessions on Agri-forestry and maple syrup production. We will also be discussing Traditional Ecological Knowledge, bio-engineering to protect streams, information on rural waste water management, and local rural Conservation programs.
