The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of Hamilton Sustainable Victory Gardens Inc. (aka Hamilton Victory Gardens) according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors.

– Participate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization

– Foster effective team work between the Board and the Executive Director and between the Executive Director, staff and volunteers

– Represent Hamilton Victory Gardens at community activities to enhance the organization’s community profile

– Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of Hamilton Victory Gardens

– Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of Hamilton Victory Gardens programs and services, including special projects.

– Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations

– Research funding sources, oversee the development of fund raising strategies, and write funding  proposals

– Administer the funds of Hamilton Victory Gardens according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization

– Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups,  funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of Hamilton Victory Gardens

 

NOTE: During the year 2014, the Executive Director will be the sole staff person employed by Hamilton Victory Gardens, and will be responsible for the performance of necessary tasks as well as for fundraising and volunteer management.

 

Qualifications

Education

  • Demonstrate experience normally acquired by a University Degree or a Community College Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

***AR/AO training an asset

  • Experience in leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit/ voluntary organizations
  • Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of Hamilton Victory Gardens
  • Knowledge of urban agriculture and food security issues

 

Proficiency in the use of computers for:

  • MS Office
  • Social Media
  • Financial Management
  • Knowledge of Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator an asset

 

Experience

  • Preference–5 or more years of progressive management experience in a voluntary sector organization
