Program Facilitator, Children and Youth Healthy Living Program
Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour 15 hrs/wk.Duration: 1 Nov 2013 to 8 Aug 2014 (40wks)

Seed to Table is a community food security and healthy living initiative in the Kingston-Galloway/Orton Park (KGO) neighbourhood. We work with young people, parents and families to address root causes of food insecurity, build capacity, increase community engagement and meet community goals around food, health and youth engagement.

The Children and Youth Healthy Living Program is a year round recreational, knowledge and awareness building opportunity for young people aged 8 to 16 years to explore healthy eating, cooking, gardening and our vital relationship with the natural environment. The program runs healthy eating and cooking activities in the Fall/Winter and gardening and environmental stewardship activities in the Spring/Summer

The Program Facilitator-Children and Youth Healthy Living Program will report to the Seed to Table Project Coordinator. This position will require the facilitator to assist in the implementation of program activities. The role will focus mainly on outreaching, organizing and facilitating weekly youth and children engagement activities/events depending on the season.

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1.     To organise and facilitate weekly youth and children engagement activities/events depending on the season
2.     To support youth leaders in designing, developing  and delivering  year round youth focused events, workshops, activities and trips
3.     To organise and coordinate weekly program  space scheduling and  coordinate program weekly resource purchasing plan
4.     To provide receipts and invoices related to program resource purchasing
5.     To document and record weekly program evaluation material provided
6.     To assist youth leaders prepare presentations for schools, community forums and other community events
7.     To coordinate program registrations, participant attendance and parent communications
8.     To supervise and manage program assistant/ youth leaders weekly job tasks and activities

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with education, planning and implementation of community-based  youth leadership /organising projects;
  • Working knowledge or  experience in gardening, cooking, recreations, health or youth engagement  or other food and health related activity
  • Flexibility to work evenings ( 2pm to 7pm) and weekends ( Sat or Sun 11am to 4pm)
  • Strong oral and written communications skills;
  • Standard PC skills (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.
