A study has recently been released by the Perth County Economic Development Agency on the challenges facing abattoir operators in the county.

Expanding on the findings of a broader recent Agriculture and Agri-food Business Expansion and Retention Study conducted by the County of Perth, in which participants expressed concern with the decline in small abattoirs in the county, this study was a collaboration with Masters students in the Rural Planning Program at the University of Guelph.  To goal was to look further into the topic “in order to gain a better understanding of the nature of challenges being faced by producers, processors, and abattoir owners within and surrounding Perth County.”

Check out the study here and share your thoughts: the draft report is open for your comment until May 31st, 2013.  Send comments to ecdev@perthcounty.ca.  Please share with your contacts in Perth County.
