The Ontario Farm to School Challenge is back for its second round for the month of May. Is your school getting involved?  Don’t miss your chance to support Ontario-grown food, educate your students, and have the chance to win $350 to put toward your school’s kitchen!

Across Ontario, schools are being challenged to connect students of all ages with fresh, locally grown foods bringing the ‘farm’ to their cafeterias, student nutrition programs, hospitality and culinary arts programs and special events.

There is just over one week left in the challenge but there’s still time to get involved. For the whole month of May, teachers can let us know how they incorporated Ontario foods into their school food program by simply tweeting at us @ONFarm2School, posting to our Facebook page, or sending us an email at kids@sustainontario.ca.

We encourage participants to send along any photos, recipes or local food lesson plans along with their entry.

Example Tweet: Students enjoyed 60 lbs. of carrots this week from ABC farm @ONfarm2school
Example Facebook post: Grade 9 culinary students made crumble today with $40 worth of local apples and strawberries. We bought the apples fresh from ABC farms and used frozen strawberries from last summer.

Over the course of the Challenge, organizers FoodShare Toronto and Sustain Ontario will offer educational materials and profile Ontario Farm to School Champions to help participating schools source local food from existing suppliers, find new suppliers, and inspire fun ideas for menu planning and student involvement.

This Challenge is through FoodShare Toronto and Sustain Ontario, with support from the Greenbelt Fund.
