Senior Program Associate, Local Foods Program

The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) works at the intersection of policy and practice to ensure fair and sustainable food, farm and trade systems, locally and globally. IATP has offices in Minneapolis and Washington. This position is based in Minneapolis.

DESCRIPTION

IATP seeks a full-time Senior Program Associate to be part of IATP’s Local Foods program. The Senior Program Associate will be involved with the design and implementation of a variety of local food systems initiatives on a local and national basis, with an emphasis on Farm to Institution efforts. The Program’s current project portfolio includes initiatives focused on value chain and local food systems infrastructure development, Farm to School, federal policy issues, food safety, food access, and a nascent youth/elder initiative, among others. This position will report to the Director of the Local Foods Program and will require a strong background in program design and implementation as well as analytical, writing and communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with Program Director to develop and implement new and existing programmatic initiatives. Support long-term program planning
  • Lead implementation for agreed projects
  • Support partnerships with various outside constituencies including fellow non-profits, allied businesses, government entities and academic institutions
  • Participate in advocacy efforts for federal and local policy change
  • Supervise interns, and potentially staff, as needed
  • Support communications through the news media, social media and IATP websites, as well as written reports and analyses
  • Represent the organization publicly
  • Participate in fundraising and reporting

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5-10 years experience working professionally on local food system issues, particularly innovative program design and implementation
  • In-depth experience with Farm to Institution efforts strongly preferred. Experience with supply chain, economic and enterprise development appreciated
  • Masters degree or equivalent graduate work in Public Policy, Agriculture, Regional Planning,
  • Business or related fields preferred
  • Understanding of and support for IATP’s perspective on food and agriculture issues
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, writing, analytical, and project management skills
  • Ability to relate cooperatively and constructively with a diversity of colleagues and stakeholders
  • Solid computer skills, including social media
  • Ability to learn new issues, work independently and take initiative while meeting agreed upon goals and deadlines
  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel
  • Team player required – good interpersonal skills and sense of humor a must.
