Thunder Bay Grain Storage may be affected by the dismantling of the Wheat Board

On October 18th, Prime Minister Harper introduced legislation, Bill C-18, to dismantle the Canadian Wheat Board. The majority of farmers oppose the Prime Minister’s plan farmers have repeatedly voted for a strong, effective CWB. Farmers are organizing and protesting. But to save our democratically controlled marketing agency, farm families need your help, and the help of the organizations with which you work.

Some Reasons to keep the Wheat Board:

1. Killing the Wheat Board means Privatization and Loss of Canadian Control

2. Killing the Wheat Board means losing the fight to stop GM Wheat.

3. Killing the Wheat Board means we can never get it back. Trade agreements give the US veto power against it.

4. Killing it is anti-democratic. Farmers have voted for keeping it.

5. Killing the Wheat Board means killing small and mid-scale farms.  The Wheat Board gives equal access to the market for small and large farms.
