Vote ON Food and Farming 2011
Dear Food and Farming Partners,
This is the year of elections! After a municipal and a federal election, Sustain Ontario is now gearing up to raise awareness around food and farming for the Ontario Provincial Elections on October 6th. We are developing a Vote ON Food and Farming campaign that will help educate candidates and the broader public on how they can help fix our broken food system.
We are looking for regional food champions to join us in raising awareness around food in their riding.
Food Champions will:
1) Meet with all candidates in each riding
2) Get food and farming questions into local debates
3) Do outreach for the Vote ON Food and Farming campaign
4) Be a contact for local media
Optional
5) Organize or support local events such as an Eat-in Ontario Fall Harvest Celebration (see Foodshare’s Recipe for Change), an All-Candidates Debate, a Regional Food Stakeholder meeting, a Local Food Supper for candidates or other creative awareness-raising actions.
Sustain Ontario will provide:
1) Training via webinar at the end of August and early September
2) An Elections Toolkit with a political report card, speaking points, questions, facts and policy ask
3) Resources ($, stickers, postcards)
4) On-going advice and moral support as needed
If you are already planning an event, are involved in a food-related campaign or would like to start something but don’t have the funds, we want to hear about it! Please fill out our on-line form to tell us what you’re up to and how we can support you.
