The Arrell Food Institute has released a new report on food waste, Laying Waste to Waste: Tackling Consumer-level Food and Food-related Waste in Canada, by Dr. Maria Corradini and Dr. Manju Misra.
“Food waste is one of the most significant sustainability challenges we face today,” the Institute shares, “35.5 million metric tonnes are lost or waste annually in Canada. Food isn’t the only challenge though. Waste from food packaging accounts for one-third of Canadians’ household waste.”
The goal of the report is to introduce readers—from consumers to policymakers—to food and food-related waste challenges in the Canadian food system.
