Community Food Centres Canada (CFCC) has released a new report on the hidden impacts of food insecurity on people’s lives, Beyond Hunger.
CFCC shares that before COVID, one in eight Canadians struggled to put good food on the table for themselves and their families, and during the pandemic, it’s become one in seven — a 39% increase.
The report, which surveyed 561 people in 22 communities across Canada, shares human stories and suggests key policy recommendations that can change lives.
“Beyond Hunger illustrates that food insecurity is about equity and income,” says Nick Saul, CEO of Community Food Centres Canada. “We urgently need a national solution that goes beyond emergency food assistance. We need a solution founded in solid policy that addresses inadequate social programs, systemic racism and precarious employment.”
