Land Over Landings has released a new report entitled Then, Now, Next, highlighting 21st-century reasons to cancel the Pickering Airport.
In 1973, a Commission of Inquiry on the Pickering airport project limited admissible evidence on need and location to new evidence that “was not in the mind of the Canadian Government [on] 30 January, 1973.” (The date on which the expropriation of the land had been confirmed.)
The report provides crucial new evidence that has arisen since the Inquiry, divided into the following sections:
1. Carbon Emissions and Climate Change / pg. 8
2. Food Security / pg. 14
3. A New-Farmer Shortage / pg. 15
4. Dozens of Indigenous Sites / pg. 17
5. Protection of History and Natural Capital / pg. 18
6. Ontario’s Land-Use Policies / pg. 20
7. Canada Geese / pg. 21
8. Rouge National Urban Park (RNUP) / pg. 22
9. Toronto Pearson’s Ground Lease / pg. 24
10. The Southern Ontario Airport Network (SOAN) / pg. 26
11. A Stranded Asset / pg. 27
12. The High Cost of Perpetual Limbo / pg. 28
