Grant List: Potential Funding Opportunities

Hi Sustain Ontario Community! We have gathered some grants together that non-profits and charities might be interested in applying too. This list has been mostly generated from the Environmental Grants Directory, and we have shortened the list to include grants that would be of interest to food and farming organizations!
Farming and Agriculture Grants
The green internship program allows opportunities for post-secondary graduates to gain experience with environmental organizations. For organizations to be eligible to take on a graduate they must participate in environmentally beneficial activities, services or research in the agricultural sector but not restricted to farms.
Please note from the website, organizations could receive up to a maximum of $16,000 per intern under the Green Internships Stream. Non-profit entities with five permanent employees or less could be eligible for up to 80% support. Non-profit entities with more than five employees may be considered for up to 80% support on a case-by-case basis.
Agriculture Adaptation Council
The purpose of this grant is to offer several funding programs to support innovative agriculture initiatives.

Below are a list of grants you can apply for from the Agriculture Adaptation Council but please note these programs vary annually:
- Agriculture Biosecurity Program
- Canadian Agricultural Adaptation Program
- Farm Innovation Program
- Food Processing Innovation and Prosperity Cluster
- Ornamental Horticulture Research and Innovation Cluster
Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency – Participant Funding Program
Purpose of this grant is to support individuals, non-profit organizations and Aboriginal groups that are interested in participating in a federal environmental assessment. The grant can cover costs like expert advice, travel expenses and reporting costs.
There are no deadlines for this grant. Visit website for details on project eligibility and applications to apply for the grant. Funding amount varies and is depended upon the project size, location, potential impacts, diversity of issues and available resources.
Community Growing Grants
Ottawa Community Foundation – Ottawa
The foundation funds an array of initiatives that are from the following area: social services, arts and culture, education, environment, health, and animal welfare.

Neighbourhood Micro Grants Program– Toronto
Have a passion for improving your community? Are you a resident-led group with a great event idea that needs funding?
Grants of $1,000 are available to activate your neighbourhood. Click here to find out if your group is eligible to apply.
Community Environmental Improvement – Kitchener
The purpose of the Community Environmental Improvement Grant is to support and assist organizations, associations or groups working towards building a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally friendly community.

Safe and Healthy Community Advisory Committee Inclusion and Belonging Neighbourhood Grant -Kitchener
The Safe and Healthy Community Advisory Committee will fund one year grants for one time projects, initiatives or events that support inclusion and belonging within Kitchener neighbourhoods. Further details regarding eligibility criteria, procedures and process look at the policy document. This grant runs until there is no more money.

Community Foundation of Canada
Purpose of this grant is to provide support to community and environmentally related projects such as kid’s camp initiatives, scholarships and arts. Applicants must be a registered charity.
The grants are on an annual granting cycle that begins in the spring of each year. 2018 granting cycle begins in March. Visit the website for specific deadlines and details.
