The doors are flying open this Saturday, May 28 at farms, markets, gardens, and restaurants in Wellington North, Mapleton, and Minto for Wellington County’s 6th annual Spring Rural Romp. The event gives the public an opportunity to meet local farmers, participate in planting workshops, and tour local food business.
Nine food and farm businesses from across the county will be participating from 10 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Download the Spring Romp Map to find the places that you’ll want to visit.
There are dozens of fun activities and contests happening throughout the day including the felfie (farm selfie) challenge where photos are shared with #SpringRomp16, and a winner from all the posts is selected to receive a local food gift. Shutterbugs also can submit photos to the Rural Romp Photo Contest with winning photos featured on the TasteReal website. Last year’s winners included images of farmscapes, butter tarts, and family fun captured across the County.
If you are making your way to Wellington County this weekend, here are some Romp Trip Tips shared by TasteReal to help you enjoy the most of all the fun activities!
- Bring a cooler. Keep the food you purchase along the romp fresh and safe.
- Bring cash. Many locations don’t accept debit or credit.
- Leave your pets at home. Many farms do not allow pets on their property.
- Wear proper clothing. There are places where you will have the chance to get dirty so dress appropriately.
- Bring an umbrella! The event occurs rain or shine so bring plenty of layers and a raincoat.
- Bring your camera. And don’t forget to enter our photo contest!
- Pick up a map. Download and bring the Rural Romp map or pick one up at any of the Rural Romp destinations. Directional signage is located along the Romp to help you find your way.
