“Acknowledging the right for all to food”
The Bruce Grey Food Charter continues to seek endorsements after its fall 2015 launch.  It was developed by Bruce Grey Poverty Taskforce with open consultation with community members.  There are dozens of such local food charters in Ontario addressing critical food policy issues for greater local food security and more vibrant agriculture.
The Charter states that it is “a commitment to work together to build a vibrant, sustainable, food secure community. Based on community participation, a sustainable local food system will prioritize health, social justice, education, economic development, the environment, and culture.”  The charter has been endorsed by the Municipality of Meaford, Salvation Army, United Way Bruce Grey, Grey Bruce Health Unit.  Both organizations and individuals are invited to lend their support to the Charter.
According to Foodnet Ontario, Food Charters “help to point community food policy in a positive direction and bring people from diverse sectors together to share concerns, experiences and knowledge relating to food and agriculture in order to establish a shared vision of food security.”
