Halton Region – Local Agriculture in the GTA from Sustain Ontario on Vimeo.

Powerline Films has been traveling across Ontario gathering stories of people and places that are transforming the future of food. Created in partnership with Sustain Ontario and more than a dozen partners, these videos shine light on good food ideas from many regions of our province.

At the beginning of each week, we put one of the videos in the spotlight so you can feast your eyes on the good food ideas developing across the province. This week’s video comes from Halton Region. Watch the rest of the videos on ontariofoodvideos.ca.

This video showcases the many farms within Halton region. The passionate farmers and growers who live and work in the region discuss the importance of local food, one path to sustaining local resources with an expanding population. In the words of Nick DiGirolamo of DG Greenhouses: “a country that loses food production, loses everything.” Freshness and flavour are just some of the benefits of local food; benefits extend to supporting a regional agricultural industry and economy and decreasing negative environmental impacts. The video invites consumers to have a more active voice in the production practices they choose to support. As Paul Fisher from Fidale Farms Ltd. reminds us, knowledge is power and if you do a little research, you might be surprised to learn where your food is coming from.
