Growing a snack program at Greenbrier Elementary School

We are a small K-8 school with a population of 226 students. We have a socioeconomically diverse population. We have some students who come to school with little or no food and other students who come overly prepared.
The “nourish to flourish” grant money received helped supplement our school snack program and provide additional snacks and food options for students who do not come with enough food. Our snack program is based in universality in that everyone is welcome, and everyone can enjoy. We do not discriminate or deny access to anyone.
Our snack program runs two days a week and is run by grandparents who volunteer to help put the bins together for delivery. Students deliver our snack bins to individual classrooms. Students are also responsible for picking up snack bins and sorting unused or unneeded food. Students receive an incentive for volunteering and are able to use the incentives received to purchase toys and treats. We have an incredible group of student volunteers involved in our building.
