Sustain’s Recommendations for the Provincial Budget

The Sustain Board submitted this collaboratively-developed budget submission to the Ontario Government’s 2026-2027 Budget Process on January 30, 2026 with an emphasis on investing in the local food economy, in new farmers and in community food production. The investments requested were based on input gathered from organizations across the province between 2024-2025, in addition to an historical review of investments and current policies related to new farmers across Ontario.
The approved Ontario Budget on March 26, 2026 does not address these urgent, priority areas of concern. Partners working across Indigenous Territories/Ontario have our work cut out to ensure funds are directed into these three areas in order to truly Grow Ontario, in support of the government’s stated policy.
