Sundance Commons is currently welcoming applications from the public to become a Farmer Member! You are welcome to apply for land access in 2026 if you’d like to start your own market garden/farm business.

Please note that this incubation opportunity is only for those who would like to start a farm business, it is not for people who would like to community garden or farm as a hobby.

About Sundance Commons

Sundance Commons is an agricultural non-profit that operates currently at five farm locations in southwestern Ontario and is growing into more. They provide new farmers with the tools, guidance, and land access at no cost to them. They focus on supporting new farmers who face barriers to entry in the agricultural sector and land access more broadly. Sundance Commons envisions a regenerative and food-secure world where the equity and agency of farm workers is centred.

Land Access Opportunities for Farmer Members

Sundance Commons provides a ground lease or agreement to Farmer Members for them to operate their own farm business on the incubator sites that they have land access to. The lease or agreement doesn’t have to just be for one season, for example at one of their locations they have a 5-year lease with a land-holding farmer in Wellington County. This lease term is carried over to reflect on any ground lease/agreement they have with Farmer Members in their organization as long as no terms are breached or broken in the ground lease they have with the Farmer Member.

Farmer Members within the organization are defined as persons who have land access through one of their incubation sites and seeks to operate a farm business. Alongside land access, Farmer Members receive other supports to facilitate their entry into agriculture. At their incubator site, they aim to provide:

  • Infrastructure (greenhouse access, cooler, storage etc.)
  • Equipment (BCS 749, irrigation system, seedling trays/pots, landscape fabric, row cover/netting, weed whacker etc.)
  • Tools (broadforks, harvest knives, hoes, carts etc.)
  • Educational support throughout the season through free Farmer Member access to an online library, books, workshops and more one-on-one mentorship with Program Coordinators

Please see the intake form here for more information, or contact Sundance Commons at programming@sundancecommons.com.
