Suddaby Public School
Kitchener, Ontario

Suddaby Public School, a kindergarten to Grade 6 elementary school, is home to over 500 students and situated in Downtown Kitchener. Suddaby serves a diverse student population from newcomer families, multi-lingual learners, single parent households and many ethnicities and backgrounds.

Our Child and Youth Worker, Sarah Smith, championed this grant and included members of the staff team to support the use of the grant. Seven teachers formed the group that provided insights and were connected to planning aspects in relation to the food program that was enhanced by this grant.

The benefits of this grant were felt by students, teachers and support staff, as adequate, nutritious food provides students with greater energy, focus and attention while participating in classroom activities. One teacher shared that “students know that when they come to school, they will be able to access these snacks whenever needed [and] many students rely on these snacks for daily nutrition due to the rising cost of groceries.” They also shared that “our school truly loves and needs this program to continue for the health and success of our students!”
