Opportunities and Barriers to Procuring and Distributing Local Food in Ontario’s K-12 schools

From September 2023 – April 2024, Farm to Cafeteria Canada, in partnership with the Student Nutrition Ontario Central East Region, Sustain Ontario and the Coalition for Healthy School Food, worked with four graduate students at the University of Guelph on a food system challenge to explore the potential to purchase and serve local food in school snack and meal programs as a way to support Canada’s agriculture and agri-food sector, while also connecting students to healthy food and local food systems.
