On November 29, 2023, the Coalition for Healthy School Food hosted the “What’s New in School Food in Canada and Internationally” webinar. The recording features informative and exciting presentations from: 

  • Hugues Vaillancourt, Director General ESDC, shared the results of the federal government’s “What We Heard Report” from its consultation on a National School Food Policy;
  • Dr. Amberley Ruetz, from the University of Saskatchewan, spoke about the School Meal Coalition meetings in Paris as well as highlights of her recent research (see report here) on the economic benefits of school food programs;
  • Tammy Shakotko and Stef Foster presented the Saskatchewan School Food Development Project research project in Saskatoon Public Schools and with Meadow Lake Tribal Council;
  • Jean-François Archambault, Founder and General Manager of La Tablée des chefs, talked about their food literacy programs including The Kitchen Brigades.
  • Brent Mansfield, Vancouver primary school teacher, shared a video about the LunchLAB program at Lord Roberts Public School as well as information about his plans to run 30 km around a square of lawn on Parliament Hill to highlight the Coalition’s request for $200 million per year for five years in federal Budget 2024.
  • Debbie Field, Coalition for Healthy School Food Coordinator, closed with a summary of where the Coalition is at in terms of federal, provincial, and territorial investments and sharing promising practices.
