Just like last year, back to school in 2021 is full of uncertainty. As school communities get back into the routine of classroom learning after months of learning online, many educators and parents are asking how they can advance experiential farm to school activities, including growing and cooking food, given the existing restrictions.
To help educators be flexible and plan for the unknown, we’ve put together a sample of resources for those of you who are ready to start thinking about farm to school activities again.
- Are you looking for virtual farm tours? Try exploring Forsythe Family Farm or Farm Food 360.
- Would you like to promote Indigenous focused land-based learning? Check out these programs offered by Planting Seeds of Hope which helps school communities re-establish meaningful and balanced relationships with Mother Earth.
- Are you interested in mindfulness practices to deepen attention and connection to food? Try this lesson plan with a video link https://edibleschoolyard.org/mindful-eating.
- Looking for a workbook to link mental and physical health, food security and sustainable development goals? Check out https://4-h-canada.ca/healthyliving/myplate.
