Sustain Ontario has developed a Policy Briefing Note to inform Bill 216, Food Literacy for Students Act, 2020 in the event that it is passed. We are now asking organizations to sign on with their support!
The policy briefing note:
- Examines the concept of food literacy comprehensively by defining the concept and developing a food literacy framework;
- Outlines key recommendations, considerations, and opportunities for roll-out;
- Examines desired food literacy competencies;
- Identifies food literacy links and gaps in the Ontario curriculum; and
- Compiles example resources and lesson plans that can be used and built upon.
If your organization wants to formally support this policy brief, please review it and let us know that your organization is in support by emailing Carolyn Webb at cwebb@sustainontario.ca by May 21st, 2021. We will then add your organization’s name to the list of supporters on page 3.
We will send the brief to our government contacts after the list of supporting organizations has been finalized.
If you have any comments or questions about the brief, please reach out with those as well. We are also still accepting curriculum resources to add to the brief if you have resources to share.
We will share updates about the Standing Committee hearings when they are announced, which we are still hoping will be scheduled for this spring.
We thank all organizations who have already signed on as supporters and are working to bring food literacy education to all Grade K-12 Ontario students!
