UPDATE – Nutrition Connections has decided to restructure the format of their 2021 Forum into a webinar series.

Registration is open for the 2021 virtual Nutrition Connections Forum, Eating Re-Imagined – Inspiring change and action in the 21st century, taking place on January 28, February 4 & February 11, 2021.

More information on sessions and speakers is continually being added to the event website, which also shares these Forum Objectives:

  1. Provide participants the opportunity to hear from experts (i.e. researchers, policy makers, clinicians) on a diverse range of emerging food and nutrition-related topics.
  2. Equip participants with knowledge and training that they can apply to any professional sector.
  3. Allow speakers and participants to share their lived experiences and learn from one another.

January 28, 2021 – The Food Landscape & Challenges of Today

Session 1: What are the Implications of COVID-19 on the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program & Food Security?

Panelists: Alex Chesney, Registered Dietitian and farmer at Thames River Melons; Dr. Valerie Tarasuk, Professor of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto; Chris Ramsaroop, PhD(c) at Ontario Institute of Studies in Education at the University of Toronto and Organizer for Justice for Migrant Farm Workers; Paul Taylor, Executive Director of FoodShare Toronto.

Session 2: COVID-19 Happened. Now What? The Pandemic’s Legacy on our Relation with Food

Speakers: Dr. Sylvain Charlebois, Professor, Food Distribution and Policy, Faculty of Management Professor, Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie University Scientific Director, Agri-Food Analytics Lab, Dalhousie University.

Session 3: Dietary Guidelines & COVID-19

Speakers: Dr. Ana Carolina Barco Leme, Post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Guelph.

February 4, 2021 – Nutrition & Mental Health

Speakers: Dr. Eva Pila, Assistant Professor at the School of Kinesiology at Western University; Nicole Danielle Schott, PhD(c) Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto.

Session 3: COVID-19, Stress & Weight

Panelists: Dr. Erin Barker, Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Concordia University; Dr. Ximena Ramos Salas, Director of Research & Policy at Obesity Canada; Cristel Moubarak, Registered dietitian and founder of Nutrifoodie.

February 11, 2021 – Anti-Racism & Representation

Session 1: Why Representation Matters

Panelists: Ben Sit, Owner, Founder and President of Evolved Sport and Nutrition; Joshna Maharaj, Chef, Author, Activist; Keisha Jefferies, PhD(c) at the School of Nursing at Dalhousie University and Junior Fellow at the MacEachen Institute for Public Policy and Governance; Tanya Senk, Centrally Assigned Principal in Indigenous Education – Urban Indigenous Education Centre and the Principal of Wandering Spirit School, Toronto District School Board.

Session 2: Racial Health Inequity & Systemic Racism in Health

Session 3: How Settlers can Connect & Understand Indigenous Ways of Knowing
