The Local Food Infrastructure Fund is a five-year, $50 million initiative ending March 31, 2024, under the Government of Canada’s Food Policy. Due to technical difficulties with the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada website, the application deadline for the first phase of the program has been extended to November 8, 2019.
Stream 1, entitled Infrastructure and Equipment Improvement Projects, is aimed at small community-based organizations and will allow them to:
- improve their infrastructure
- purchase equipment that is directly related to the accessibility of healthy, nutritious, and ideally, local foods within their community
Successful applicants will be eligible to receive between $5,000 and $25,000 in non-repayable funding.
Eligible applicants are not-for-profits such as:
- community or charitable organizations
- Indigenous groups
- municipal and regional governments in areas where there are no not-for-profit organizations that provide food services
