Are you ready to make some noise for healthy school food?! Another Great Big Crunch is fast approaching on March 28th!

The Great Big Crunch is a national movement and annual moment of anti-silence in which students, teachers, parents and others passionate about food join the food movement and crunch into apples (or any crunchy fruit or vegetable) to make noise for healthy school food!

An initiative of FoodShare Toronto, the Great Big Crunch has been happening across Canada from coast to coast every year since 2008 — and there have been over a million registered crunchers since then!

How does it work?

  • Register with FoodShare before “crunch day” — you can sign up for yourself, your class, your school or your whole school board
  • FoodShare will provide fun curriculum-linked class activities and recommend some fresh local produce for you to snack on
  • Get all your friends together and take a synchronized bite at 2:30 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 28, 2019
  • Then don’t forget to share your crunch photos on social media using the hashtag #GreatBigCrunch
  • And get a Great Big Crunch Certificate (English/French) to proudly display on your wall

This year, Food Secure Canada and the Coalition for Healthy School Food (which Sustain Ontario is a member of) are joining FoodShare and others in making noise for a national cost-shared universal healthy school food program. To learn more about that specifically, be sure to check out the Nourish Kid Now campaign and the petition to the Minister of Health.
