Full-Time, 35 hrs per week

Who we are: Ecosource is an innovative environmental organization that empowers the community to become more environmentally responsible through creative public education. We specialize in hands-on programming that aims to increase environmental sustainability in Peel Region and beyond.

The position: Ecosource is seeking a Gardens Program & Education Manager to support Ecosource’s Community Gardens & Urban Agriculture programs. The Gardens Program & Education Manager will oversee the delivery and development of community gardens and local food programs in the Region of Peel. A key focus of this position is the management of Ecosource’s growing Community Gardens & Urban Agriculture team, including 5 full-time and 3 part-time staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees Ecosource’s Community Gardens and Urban Agriculture programs, managing all existing partnerships and projects as well as identifying areas for development
  • Leads the development of new community gardens and local food projects in the Region of Peel
  • Works with community organizations and key stakeholders to develop strategic partnerships
  • Oversees the development of educational programs and resources on the topics of community gardening, urban agriculture, and local food
  • Manages community gardening events (harvest festivals, networking events, workshops) in collaboration with the Gardens Team
  • Evaluates program progress and feeds evaluation back into future program development
  • Provides relevant education and support to partner groups across the community, as required
  • Coordinates regular email, written and telephone communication with internal and external partners
  • Monitors, tracks, evaluates and reports on program outcomes, materials and budget
  • Supervises a team of 5 full-time staff and 3 part-time staff
  • Leads fundraising activities for Ecosource’s Community Gardens & Urban Agriculture programs in collaboration with the Executive Director
  • Works in collaboration with Ecosource’s leadership team on organizational projects, including the implementation of Ecosource’s strategic goals, health and safety programs, organization-wide fundraising events, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a university degree and/or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience leading teams of 3-5
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in project management
  • Knowledge of best practices in HR management
  • Demonstrated ability as a fundraiser with extensive knowledge of sector-specific trends
  • Strategic thinker adept at building solid relationships with key stakeholders
  • Comprehensive knowledge of local food systems, community gardening, and/or urban agriculture
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and prioritize work in order to meet project deadlines
  • Analytical thinker, organized, energetic, flexible, self-motivated and possesses a sense of humour
  • Familiarity with the Region of Peel and working with marginalized communities an asset
  • Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications and proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications
  • Strong project monitoring, tracking, evaluation and report writing skills
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, as required
  • Fluency in a language represented in our gardens community an asset (eg. Punjabi, Urdu, Italian, Gujarati, Tamil)
  • Applicants are required to hold a valid “G” driver’s license and must have access to a reliable car

Application Information:

This is a full-time position at 35 hrs per week for a 12-month term starting February 2018, with the possibility of extension/becoming permanent. Salary is in the $50,000s (dependent upon experience) and a comprehensive benefits package is offered.
