Farms at Work’s mission is to promote healthy and active farmland in East Central Ontario. They strive to do the following to accomplish this:

  • Support farmers in diversification and expansion to ensure that farmland stays in production
  • Attract new farmers to the region
  • Ensure access to local farmer training opportunities
  • Provide opportunities for new and establishing farmers to integrate into the agricultural community through mentorship, internship and events
  • Support access to farmland and financing by new farmers
  • Engage farmland owners who are non-farmers in active use of their land for agricultural purposes
  • Create partnerships and outreach that result in on-the ground farm stewardship in the region.

Farms at Work is a project on Tides Canada’s shared platform, which supports on-the-ground efforts to create uncommon solutions for the common good.

Farms at Work offers the following:

  • Skills-Building Workshops: A wide variety of skills-building workshops for new and transitioning farmers from all levels of experience
  • Field Courses: These are curriculum-based, multi-day training programs in which expert farmers and trainers work with small groups of beginner farmers throughout a farming season.
  • Business Planning Program: A tailored workshop series designed to guide participants in turning their farm business vision into a concrete business plan – including production, marketing, human resources, financial planning and projections.
  • Check out their website for more information all all these great initiatives!
