On Thursday, November 9, Mohawk College, in partnership with the Greenbelt Fund, will be hosting a Research Summit: Increasing Local Food at Ontario Colleges at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto.

The event will present a draft local food procurement framework for Ontario’s 24 colleges, focused on bringing more Ontario-grown food to campuses across the province. The summit will also present the results of five local food pilot projects done at Algonquin, Boreal, Fleming, Humber and Mohawk Colleges.

More information can be found on the ONCollegeFood website. View the full agenda for the day here.

For those interested in also attending the Greenbelt Fund’s Local Food Symposium on November 8, there is a bundle discount rate available to attend both events. Information on the bundle rate can be found here.

It is of grave importance to include purchasing criteria that identifies regenerative agriculture as opposed to conventional farming. The paradigm shift from degenerative food, farming and land-use practices toward regenerative practices—those that regenerate soil, biodiversity, health, local economies and climate stability—is arguably the most critical transformation occurring throughout the world today. We have the chance to make an impact with guiding purchasing decisions wisely.
