Venue Supervisor
(Permanent Position)
The Stop Community Food Centre is a leading-edge and nationally-respected non-profit organization that has been providing innovative programs and advocacy to address problems of hunger and inequality for over 30 years. The Stop’s mission is to increase access to healthy food in a manner that maintains dignity, builds health and community, and challenges inequality.
Reporting to the Administrative Coordinator, the Venue Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that events at The Stop’s Green Barn are safe, welcoming, and successful, and that the client experience is positive. The Venue Supervisor is integral to the success of events at the venue. The work schedule varies in length and may include weekends and/or evenings and/or night shifts, depending on the nature of the event. Shifts are a minimum of four (4) hours, based on the assigned role.
Responsibilities:
- Opening and securing premises before and after the event, and supervision during event production;
- Ensuring that the venue is run in a safe, orderly, and disciplined manner in accordance with the conditions of all health and safety, fire, and building regulations;
- Ensuring the proper close of the Kitchen space according to procedures, if it is included in the rental booking;
- Ensuring clients are fully informed of, and adhere to, event and facility policies and procedures;
- Ensuring the secure and safe-keeping of stock, goods, and equipment;
- Identifying hazards and problems as they arise and reporting them to the Administrative Coordinator;
- Contacting the Administrative Coordinator and Green Barn Manager in the event of an emergency;
- Confidently and professionally representing The Stop;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of food safety, event service, and hospitality;
- Time management, administration, and organizational skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, i.e. working with a diversity of people facing intersectional barriers;
- Ability to organize and maintain clean and sanitary spaces;
- Ability to work independently and in a team, prioritize tasks;
- A commitment to and understanding of anti-racist/anti-oppressive practices;
- Maintaining a calm demeanor when interacting with clients.
Assets:
- Language(s) other than English;
- Experience working or volunteering in a community setting;
- First Aid;
- Familiarity with food preparation & knowledge of safe food-handling practices.
Hours: Minimum four (4) hours, but longer as required.
Estimated Events Per Year: 6-12, typically evenings and weekends
Rate of Pay: $17/hour
