Halton Food Council is hiring a Community Food Network Manager to help realize the goals of the Halton Food Charter and to develop a sustainable local food system in Halton. Deadline for applications is June 30th.
The Halton Food Council, a Sustain Ontario member, is an independent, non-profit organization with members representing a wide range of sectors within their community. The Council was established in 2009 and since then has engaged in a number of initiatives to develop awareness of food system opportunities and issues, while promoting food security with a common voice.

Key Responsibilities:
Continue to maintain and enhance a strong network of organizations, government leaders and staff, institutions, and other community stakeholders in order to develop sustainable local food systems in Halton Region
Foster and facilitate community food-related initiatives and innovative partnerships
Assist the HFC in the development and implementation of the organization’s initiatives and a strategic plan to ensure its long-term sustainability Identify funding opportunities and prepare or assist with grant writing as required
Supervise the Community Garden Program Manager
Lead and/or support current and future HFC workgroups including the Food Waste, and Communications workgroups
Organize community events, such as workshops, to educate and share information and to support the work of the HFC
Assist with the completion of an environmental scan related to Halton’s food system
Serve as a resource on food system related subjects in response to community requests
Provide administrative support to the HFC as required Reports to: This position is accountable to the HFC.
Knowledge and Skills:
Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate projects
Demonstrated ability to develop food-related community networking initiatives and to foster partnerships
High level of knowledge of food systems
Self-motivated with demonstrated leadership and team-building skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a wide range of community stakeholders
Excellent organizational and communication skills in areas such as report writing and public speaking engagements
Ability to meet deadlines
Ability to work within budget guidelines
Proficient in using MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Able to manage WordPress website content, to publish newsletters using MailChimp, and to use social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter) would be an asset
Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and occasional weekends
Must have own transportation
Education and Experience:
Post-secondary education, preferably in a related field such as food system policies, sustainable food systems, urban agriculture, food security, public health
At least 2 years of experience in the food system in a public, non-profit, and/or for-profit environment
At least 2 years of experience in the field of agriculture (e.g. community gardens, rural/urban farms)
Extensive grant-writing experience
Supervisory experience
