(Re)discover local food in Eastern Ontario during the second annual Local Food Challenge August 12 to 28th in Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry, Prescott-Russell, and Cornwall & Area.
Throughout the two weeks, residents are challenged to (re)discover the local food sources in their community by choosing more local food and sharing their local food experiences online. All participants are eligible to win prizes from local sources.
Local Food Challenge invites local food business, producers, vendors, advocates and educators to partner in the Challenge by promoting local food and encouraging their clients, customers, and colleagues in the SDG, PR, and Cornwall & Area to participate. Partners are asked to register online to start supporting the LFC.
Participants must register no later than August 24 to report the local products that they pick, buy and catch from August 12-28. Local products and producers can be found on the regional Local Food Map from Eastern Ontario Agri-Food Network. There are additional tools and tips from LFC online to boost participants’ local food power!
Why Does Local Food Matter?
According to the Local Food Challenge, local food is better for your community because it helps to build relationships with those who grow your food while strengthening the local economy by keeping dollars and jobs in the area. Local food helps the environment by decreasing the distance food travels and by preserving farmland. Fresh, local food produced close to home is also better for your taste buds!
