local-food-Vahed-presentation-Tax-Credit-webinarA $1 million dollar boost from Southwestern Ontario Development Fund is helping Lakeside Produce realise its ambitious 3-year expansion project.  The Leamington, Ontario producer has been operated by the Cervini family since 1943 and now plans to invest $7 million to expand its production facility and to install state-of-the-art equipment.  The provincial support will enable Lakeside to retain 312 employees and hire an additional 203 workers.

“Leamington is well known for producing high quality vegetables and being an economic hub for Ontario’s agri-food sector,” said Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Jeff Leal.

Since October of 2012, Ontario has invested more than $80 million through the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund, creating more than 3,500 new jobs and retaining more than 18,500 jobs, according to a government news release.
