A few weeks ago, the Government of Ontario released a discussion paper that outlined its proposed approach to enhance pollinator health and reduce the use neonicotinoid pesticides in Ontario. You can read an overview of the proposal on our website.
If you would like to provide input on the proposal, there are a couple of different ways that you can participate in the discussion. You can submit comments by January 25, 2015 through Ontario’s environmental registry or by e-mail at pollinatorhealth@ontario.ca. Or, there is also an opportunity to attend one of the following public meetings:
- December 10, 2014 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. – Webex (English);
- December 11, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon – Toronto Public Meeting
- December 15, 2014 from 1:00 – 3:00 – Webex (French);
- January 14, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon – Kingston Public Meeting.
Registration is required to get the location information or conference call numbers. You can register on-line or contact the Agricultural Information Contact Centre at 1-877-424-1300 or by e-mail at ag.info.omafra@ontario.ca.
If there is demand, the government has noted that it is willing to set-up additional consultation sessions.
We would encourage you to participate in these sessions to provide input into the government’s strategy to protect Ontario’s pollinators.
