New Facilitators Appointed to Plan Futures of Kemptville and Alfred Campuses

Two former Members of Parliament have been appointed as facilitators to work with the local communities of Kemptville and Alfred to develop sustainable plans for the future of these two Ontario Agricultural College campuses in eastern Ontario. The campuses were slated for closure earlier this year due to the consolidation of programs at the University of Guelph. The new facilitators will lead discussions on how to provide academic and skills training programs that meet the needs of the region, specifically its rural and Francophone population.

The Honourable Lyle Vanclief, Canada’s Minister of Agriculture from 1997-2003, will develop options for the continued operation of the Kemptville campus, while Marc Godbout will focus on the future of the Alfred campus, a Francophone campus that hosts the only certified organic dairy research and teaching farm in North America.

The Alfred College Community Council is a member of Sustain Ontario. In March, we shared the Organic Council of Ontario’s call for the continued operation of Alfred College, referencing the campuses’ unique programs and research facilities.
