The Heart and Stroke Foundation has two exciting announcements to share:

1. Upcoming Webinar: Working with the Media

May 23, 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

The Heart and Stroke Foundation will be offering a webinar on Working with the Media on May 23, from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Teresa Roncon, HSF Senior Manager of Media Relations, will present on the following topics:

  • Overview of different types of media
  • Determining which one is most desirable for your cause
  • How to pitch/reach the media
  • Working within a tight budget – best options
  • Optimizing your website
  • Owning your story
  • Searching for results/evaluation

Spark Advocacy Grant recipient Pat Longmuir, Scientist at the Healthy Active Living Research Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute in Ottawa, will also share her reflections on working with the media and the benefits, real and perceived, to doing so.

To register please email Melissa Yule with ‘register for webinar’ in the subject line.

2. Help Heart and Stroke Celebrate Healthy Candidates:

“Healthy Candidates” is a Heart and Stroke advocacy campaign designed to focus the attention of voters and candidates on the need to invest more in promoting and supporting better health in Ontario, now and in the future. We are asking voters to challenge their candidates to “Go Healthy” to show their support for this goal.

A critical ingredient to the success of this campaign is celebrating candidates who become Healthy Candidates. We’ll do this by delivering them a kudos package complete with an official “I’m a Healthy Candidate” button and other campaign branded gifts. Our hope is that the candidates will use this kudos package, along with the personalized press release we send them, to create a photo opportunity for local media and their own Facebook and web pages. We are looking for  local volunteers to deliver the kudos package and the congratulations of the HSF. If you are interested in volunteering in this capacity, please get in touch with Melissa Yule. We’d love to have your support advocating for this important and common goal.
